When you are feeling stress

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day; I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me and heavier came each task.

"Why doen't God help me?" I wondered.

He answered, "You didn't ask".

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on grey and bleak. I wondered why God didn't show me.

He said, "You didn't seek".

I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently and lovingly chided,

"My child, you didn't knock".

I woke up early this morning and paused entering the day; I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.

Hi everyone okay i'm aware i'm like the last sec 4 from the blogging committee to post up an entry but don't judge me okay! My update will blow your socks off your smelly shoes.

5 Reasons why you should love GB 48th Coy

1) The camps, regardless whether what camp it is, are always fun. And even though you dread going to the camps on the day itself, you’ll be rewarded with another view at the end of the day.

“ I think that the camps are very fun and interesting and the games are also always very engaging. But the camps are a bit too long. Overall I think it’s opportunity for the squad and company to bond together.”

By Julia, sec 2.

“I think they’re very fun and enjoyable, although it’s quite tiring. It allows us to bond with the squad and company and friends and I like the aqua soccer activity the most.”

By Huixin, sec 2.

2) The drills, even though tiring and really unrewarding at times, are usually fun when done with a big group of people like your squad mates and stuff. Or even better, when done with the whole company!

3) The weekly parade. Of course I don’t expect you to be dying to come for every parade but for a person like me, who dreads everything that has to do with parade because I’m always so lazy to come in the morning, I always go home enjoying and reliving what I’ve learnt during the whole morning and knowing that it was time spent well.

4) The mdms. Even if you secretly dislike them, you’ll somehow grow to like them all someday and appreciate them for who they are and always guiding you along, really.

“I think they’re quite entertaining and funny, although quite strict at times but they’re overall a bunch of fun-loving people who care a lot about the GB girls.”

By Julia, sec 2.

“ They’re very funny. And will always do their best to know the GB girls more and are always showing care and concern towards us.”

By Huixin, sec 2.

5) The friends. Obviously the reason why you come for weekly parades is kind of due to your friends, and squad mates too. Some of you don’t see your GB friends in school most of the time, hence it’s great to come for parades and talk/hang out/do things together with them.

#3 Leadership Conference Reflections

The secondary fours went for their last Leadership Conference on 7th Feb (yes, this post is a bit outdated) held at Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School. Most found it inspirational and refreshing and here are some of their reflections on the conference that may be of some help to you guys.

1. I learnt not to be hypocrites. Sometimes we do things that we know isn’t morally upright but we still go ahead with it. I have learnt that we shouldn’t do the wrong things that go against our ethics just because everyone else is doing it. No one wants to be the sore thumb but doing something that you clearly know is wrong is worse. We should all “be unglam than be unreal”. We should be constant in our behaviour. We should also just follow our hearts and do what we think is right. No matter how much we put on a façade to show our ideal selves to others, it doesn’t mean a thing at all if we’re not happy in the end.

2. “In the end, everything will be okay.” “If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” This coincidentally links back to what Mdm Mandy had shared during devotion about trusting God and having faith in Him that everything will turn out fine. One of the verse she shared was “therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what will you wear. Is not life more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” from Matthew 6:25-26. Instead of worrying and causing adding more problems to ourselves, why not look on the positive side and do what we can to stay happy. That night I felt assured that at the end of the day everything will settle in its rightful place and I shouldn’t worry so much all the time.

3. Also, there was a talk made by Miss Pearl Pang, where she talked about her many years in Girls’ Brigade. She started off when she was in primary school, and is still currently serving in Girls’ Brigade. She seemed to be enjoying her every moment of her GB life, which made me have second thoughts about Girls’ Brigade. So, we should all treasure the time we have in GB because not all of us will continue staying in GB after we leave ZHSS.

4. I leant that everyone can be a leader in his or her own ways. If we want to leave a legacy behind, we need to even have one. We will only know what our talents are when we are irritated with someone who does something slower compared to us. (But that also does not give us the right to look down on others too.)

5. Also I think that all girls should appreciate the LC even though it may sound boring because I realize that every time I attend a LC, I bring back something I remember for life. (So don’t fall asleep during LC!)

6. "The most enjoyable part of the leadership conference was perhaps when all of us sang the ‘Princess Pat’ song together." (You can start guessing who this person is :D) *For those who do not know this song, we'll sing it some time soon..and why this person felt it was the most enjoyable part, i have no idea either.

BYE!

#2 The Memories

HELLO GIRLS *inserts heart shape*

Yes, 7 March 2009 was the day that 17 girls have finally completed their journey. Well, almost. But nevertheless, we have celebrated, cried, eaten and everything else you can think of!

First of all, we played games just to start the day going. It was a really hilarious revised version of WACKO in which we used our feet instead of our hands. It was really confusing with the new girls but still really hilarious. We then went back to the classroom for a short devotion session led by Mdm Rachel.

After that, the fun began! The Sec 4/5s were made to read out their prepared testimonials to share their experience in GB with the younger ones. It could be seen from each and every girl’s faces that we were all as nervous as anyone would normally be when giving a speech, but with perseverance we pushed on; and even though we stumbled at some parts, we made it through. That definitely took a lot to muster up enough courage!

I believe after hearing each others’ testimonials, our hearts and brains could only imagine and reminisce the good old times as we ate the healthy sandwiches made by our dear Mdms Peiying & Jemaine. (OH I CAN STILL TASTE IT IN MY TONGUE T^T) Anyways, some of us cried due to our inability to control those tear ducts of ours. But still, those were surely tears of joy and tears to remember. Hopefully through our speeches as well, our dear juniors learnt a thing or two more about us and more about the Mdms and more about GB as a whole!

Also, the thing that touched all the girls the most, was the huge effort put in by the officers, Serene & Sherlynn to make us the HUGE A3 sized cards for each and every single girl who was leaving. The cards were filled with encouraging words from our squadmates and Mdms. Each handwritten note and heartfelt thoughts for each Sec4/5 was truly inspiring to read. And as if that was not enough, it was amazing to know that they rushed to laminate all the big A3 sized montages for us all! (All done behind our backs!!)

Also, the Mdms Grace & Peiying also put in effort to compile a list of Bible verses to refer to in times of stress and unrest. It was really nice of them as the next few months of our lives are definitely going to be a hectic and crazy ride. Even the recruits put in some effort to making us Sec 4/5s feel so much warmth. Each of them made a friendship band for us, using the time that they could have probably done something else. We felt really thankful despite the short period that we had to bond in all. I, personally, was really touched 

To end off parade, we went back to the classroom where we sang the song “Circle Of Friends” to remind us that no matter what we do, where we are, who we are, we still have this circle of friends to bounce back to, to approach and just to have to be there. Throughout the song, the girls had a lot of fun thinking about how we sang this song for our 2007 Annual Year-End camp. It was really sad to know that years have passed so quickly and that our time to go was approaching at such a quick pace.

Thank you Mdms & Serene & Sherlynn for putting in so much effort; the girls for being supportive; and to the Sec 4/5 girls, GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS!!!

Hoho. Picture time.

#1 Oh You're A Survivor

Hello everybody, my name is not Micheal Jackson and this is one of the first updates from the Gb's Blog community! And since this is one of our firsts I'm gonna dish out some probably useful tips to a successful survivor in Gb and Zhss and as many of us know being in ZHSS is not a bed of roses, or anything near that. I've heard the secondary one's are already having SSPs? Eat your heart out, us seniors only started last year, but its hell all the same. So, here are some tips I think might help out someway or another. Read this with a pinch of salt, my opinion of an easy way out might be your opinion of an absurd rubbish.

Survival in GB :

  • Your boots give you the worse blisters on earth:

For short term relief, buy Watson's Cushioned or Comfort plasters because experience tells me that they really really work. Stick it to your boots so they don't hurt so bad when you walk or stick it to the back of your feet, where the boots tend to rub against. The latter works more because you won't get into trouble with your uniform and its prettier. I prefer the Comfort plasters more because they stick to your skin like another skin whereas the Cushioned ones are not that sticky and are really thick. Cushioned ones are more expensive too I think? But generally boots in a long term wear off and become softer so you'd only have to suffer when you have new boots. Oh and wear higher socks. Don't fold it or you'd seriously suffer. Punishments from both the mdms and your boots

  • Boots not shiny :( :

Joey the pro says more kiwi less water and only add water when it feels dry. Please please please use a proper polishing cloth because the last time I used a normal cloth it killed my boots. I say the best way is to B--- your boots but mdm rachel'd kill me if I say it and if you b--- it wrongly your boots die too. Don't use the instant one because after the shine wears off the kiwi'd peel off and it'd look like it went for suntanning and all it's skin's peeling off.

  • Slash are such a hassle to pin up + they keep dropping:

Heh heh, sew velcro at the parts when you're supposed to pin and just stick them together when you wear it. Its like the easiest thing on earth, really, if you get pass the stage of all the hassle of buying the velcro and sewing it on. And obviously I'm still stuck at the part where I have to go out and buy the velcro so I'm sticking to my pins. But its really a smart idea. Oh and if it keeps dropping because you have so many badges, pin it up at the top.

  • You feel like dying during parades :

Sleep early on Fridays, there's no easy way out, actually. Either that or you really hype yourself up during Songs and Games because once you're hyper it tends to stay.

  • Uniform woes:
Always always take note of your attire during uniform checks and especially when mdm grace is in charge. There are some of us who've done 60 squats and had thigh aches for 3 days before (oh the agony of climbing up those stairs), we're serious.

Survival in ZHSS

  • Always act good:

I'm not kidding. Even though it sound like the most superficial, morally incorrect thing to do, the best thing is to act like a doll in front of your teachers. That way, they won't pick on your hair, your socks, your anything. I'm not saying that the teachers are unfair or anything, some of the teachers in ZHSS are like the best but everyone has biases and you would definitely want to put yourself in an advantage. Don't tell anyone I told y'all so.

  • Coffee:

Honestly, why do you think the canteen drink stall auntie always has all the coffee placed neatly outside during lunch breaks. ITS BECAUSE WE POOR SEC FOURS HAVE DOUBLE SSPS! And it really works, for me. Drink 'em coffee.

  • Bag packs:

This is propaganda. Backpacks are in now, they don't kill your shoulders as much as sling bags or tote/armpit bags and they store so much more stuffs. Too bad they're really overrated now. :( You're not special if you carry a Dickies anymore but If you did 2 years ago you'd probably be deemed a trend setter. Too bad, get a Billabong or any cheapo ones. But backpacks really make your bus-taking and walking life so much better.

  • Food:

Its illegal but extremely smart that you prepare some small snacks or sweets for school and eat in between classes because some of them really wake you up and some teachers are not very strict on this, because some of them agree to this. Just don't buy those which is extremely high on sugar, like Jellybeans, because they make you tired easily. Experience told me so and too many Jellybeans makes you cranky, for reals, I remember laughing for two whole Amaths period at sin cos graphs because we were on Jellybeans. Sour candy, Clorets and all the other sour and minty sweets are probably the best

Well, thats all for now. I felt like i've rambled for so long. Don't take all of them too seriously because some of them might not work for you, but I guess some might. Don't sue me if you break any rules though, do all these it with adult supervision and aplenty of commonsense.
